Adastra Sailing can provide Race Training

Crewing on a racing yacht is a great way to build miles and get experience for very little cost as there are always many racing skippers looking for crew. We have 3 programs which will teach you the skills necessary, each of which last 4 days. Whilst just going on the courses will not turn you into an overnight race winner, they will show you the things you need to practice and should certainly significantly improve your sail handling to an extent that you should be able to get a crewing job on a racing yacht.

Program 1 Sail trim

This program will cover the main crewing aspects of racing: spinnaker handling, peeling and gybing, winching techniques, genoa trim, use of tell-tales, main trim for boatspeed and height, pre start techniques, weight distribution, sail care etc.

Dates: 15th to 19th June, 27th to 31st July. Price: £350 per person.

Program 2 Helming

This program is designed for the person who wishes to race his own boat. It covers general helming, boat to boat tactics, racing rules, navigation (tides, wind, clouds, bends and shifts) starting (half the race), crew selection etc.

Program 3 Preparation

This program covers all aspects of boat preparation. Hull preparation, antifouling, mast tuning for different winds including prebend, sail selection and tuning, general equipment selection, instrumentation and its interpretation, handicap optimisation, advanced navigation and tides, especially in the Solent.
