Racing at Cowes

Round the Island Race takes place on June 21st. Join us in Poole on the evening of 19th June to meet the rest of the crew and have a brief introduction to the boat. The following day (Friday) we will take part in a feeder race from Poole to Cowes when we can get used to racing and practice all the manoeuvres, especially launching, flying, gybing and recovering the spinnaker. We will have a core crew of 4 very experienced racers to help get us off to a flying start so racing experience is not necessary for you to have a fantastic time.

Once we arrive in Cowes late afternoon we will berth at West Cowes Marina and head for the beer tent. Over a beer or two we will discuss the race and look at the charts and tidal stream atlases to work out the best route around the course.

After a meal at one of the Cowes pubs we will attempt to have a reasonably early night before the big race. The following day its an early start for a 10 hour race. After a hectic couple of hours and we have safely navigated between the lighthouse and the wreck at the Needles we can settle down and grab some food on the way. After the race is over its back to Cowes for more refreshments.

The following day there is a race back to Poole and we usually arrive at around 4pm.

The total cost for this event is £300 per person, including the use of lifejackets and wet weather gear, food whilst sailing and all berthing, race entry fees etc.
